It appears Britain’s divorcees are soon to benefit from the globally accepted prenuptial agreements. The US-style lockdown appears to be heading to the UK, the world’s capital of divorce and the domain of regular multimillion pound divorce settlements.

As it currently stands, courts in England and Wales don’t officially recognise the pre-marital agreement —although there has been tendency to take them into account.

Now the UK Law Commission is set to give them the legal stamp, making them admissible in court.

Many believe the UK is the world capital of divorce. While it’s true that we do have a high number of divorcees, we’re far from the madding crowd on the statistics front, in fact the UK is turning back the clock, and as of January 2010 the might island nation has its lowest divorce rate for 29 years with experts predicting the trend to continue.

Where Britain does claim divorce capital of the world however, is when it comes to hefty payouts. Since the House of Lords case of White in 2000, the law has been buffed and refined to honour the non-financial contributions of spouses (typically the wife), which has paved the way for the headline breaking payouts.
